New Registrar

How do I apply to become a registrar?

Apply to DNC

First you need to apply to Domain Name Commission Ltd (DNC) to become an Authorised Registrar.

DNC is responsible for authorising entities to become .nz registrars.

Further information on the application process can be obtained by visiting the DNC website: F.A.Q. for Registrars.

The Registrar Implementation Kit (RIK) contains all information relevant to becoming a registrar:

  • technical specifications
  • the Authorisation Process
  • the Authorisation Agreement
  • the Connection Agreement
  • and all associated policies and procedures

Operational Testing and Evaluation process

Once authorisation by DNC has been granted the newly Authorised Registrar needs to complete the Operational Testing and Evaluation process (OT&E) in order to be connected to the Production Shared Registry System (SRS) by the .nz Registry Services (NZRS).

An overview of the OT&E process is as follows:

  1. The newly Authorised Registrar provides all required NZRS connection documents:

  2. NZRS connects the Registrar to the SRS Test platform to allow them to develop their interface with the SRS.

  3. Registrar tests their interface against the SRS Test platform.
The technical component of the Registrar Information Kit (RIK) containing the technical specifications can be found at: http://www.nzrs.net.nz/rik/

  4. Registrar advises NZRS that their testing is complete.

  5. NZRS assesses the Registrars comprehension and understanding of the SRS and confirms that the Registrar is able to execute all the SRS transactions.

  6. NZRS connects the Registrar to the Production SRS.
